"We are thrilled that this project, through incredible collaboration with the city of San Francisco, the Nob Hill neighborhood, the Masons and Live Nation, is nearing completion," said Jodi Goodman, president of Live Nation Northern California. The initial lineup of artists slated to appear at the venue includes Old Crow Medicine Show on Sept. 20, Train on Sept. 21 and 22, Pixies on Sept. 30, Daryl Hall and John Oates on Oct. 17, and the 1975 on Nov. 18.

Expansion plans for the 56-year-old facility at 1111 California St. were originally drafted in 2009 and approved by the city Planning Commission and then by the Board of Supervisors on a split vote a year later, only to be torpedoed by neighbors concerned that turning the building into a regular stop for touring bands would result in an influx of loud music, late night revelers and idling tour buses.

Originally, Live Nation asked for 95 events a year and 11 concession stands selling alcohol. The final wording of the agreement caps concerts at 54 a year and allows just two bars unless attendance goes over 3,000. In addition, no event can end later than 11 p.m. on weeknights and 11:30 p.m. on weekends, although the promoter could request that three events per year extend until 1 a.m.
