Formed in Hertford, England in 1968, Deep Purple are pioneers of hard rock and heavy metal, known for their thunderous organ-and-guitar sound. Their 1972 album Machine Head and its riff 'Smoke on the Water' are cornerstones of the genre. Still active, they released their 24th studio album, SPLAT!, in July 2026.
